A good URL structure prevents endless redirects, which is good for your site. Below are some of important pointers for a good URL structure for SEO:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Use targeted keywords<\/strong> \u2013 using relevant keywords on a URL simply tells crawlers and your webpage visitors what the page is all about. So, do some keyword research and include keywords that are relevant. Tools such as <a href=\"https:\/\/keywordtool.io\/\">https:\/\/keywordtool.io\/<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.semrush.com\">https:\/\/www.semrush.com<\/a> can assist with your keywords.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep a simple URL structure<\/strong> &#8211; there are two types of URL structures, and are as follows:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-590 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rankmovers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/correct-url-structure-for-seo-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One that flows from domain to category\/parent page to product\/actual page. e.g. <a href=\"#\"><strong>domain.com\/blog\/home-decor-ideas-2018\/<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One that goes from domain to product\/actual page. e.g. <a href=\"#\"><strong>domain.com \/ home-decor-ideas-2018\/<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The first example is considered best for SEO. It shows that the page you\u2019re visiting is a blog; if it were news obviously the folder name would be \/news\/.\u00a0 This is good hierarchy. Whereas, the second URL structure does not tell you what category the page you\u2019re visiting is. This structure works well with core pages.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Avoid unneeded characters or words<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Stop Words<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cand\u201d, \u201cor\u201d, \u201cbut\u201d, humans and bots can make sense of URLs without conjunctions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keyword repetition<\/strong> \u2013 for example: www.<strong>google<\/strong>.com\/<strong>google<\/strong>-webmaster-tools.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hashes #<\/strong> &#8211; avoid using them in some circumstances, although they can be useful. Make some of your <a href=\"\/how-to-create-relevant-content\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">content <\/a>available via another URL.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Word delimiters<\/strong> \u2013 substitute underscores with hyphens. Underscores serve to join two words together.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Keep URLs short<\/strong> \u2013 the shorter the better. Your URLs should be below 100 characters at most, of course depending on the page, and not longer than 2048 characters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Protocol &amp; Subdomains: WWW vs. Non-WWW &amp; HTTP vs. HTTP<\/h2>\n<p>Protocol and subdomains make the first part of the URL. However, these are mostly taken care of by developers. So, search engines index two major versions of your site\u2019s domain. These are the www and non-www versions. <a href=\"#\">www.domain.com<\/a> takes you straight into a site without having to redirect. It is essentially a list of your site\u2019s URLs that you submit to search engines. So, for Google to read\/find your web pages easily and to reference when choosing canonical URLs on your site, you need to have an XML sitemap.
